This project is inspired by Mayan art. I was creating a burning effects for a burning cube with a golden sphere hidden inside. As the cube burned out and disappear, the golden sphere slowly reveals itself.
For modeling, I kept the model rather low poly. Most of the detailed are done with bump maps. The texturing process are done in Substance Painter and exported the maps into Maya.
The OSL shader is used to drive Emission, Displacement, and Presence.Various inputs are mapped with different noise to create more interesting
results. The outputs are mapped to specific attribute and keyframed to animate the displacement, glow and presence of the outer cube.
